Fall 2025 Safety Grade is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety
Reno, Nevada (November 13, 2025) – Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center earned the “A” grade, the highest safety mark that can be awarded, during the same reporting period that saw other hospitals in the region receive lesser marks for safety.
“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

In addition to the Leapfrog “A” Hospital Safety Grade, Saint Mary’s was voted as the region’s Best Hospital earlier this October. That recognition, determined by more than 100,000 community votes across Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Carson City, highlights the trust and support Saint Mary’s continues to earn from the community as it was a winner of the Gold category. Further, the hospital received the 2025 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, placing Saint Mary’s in the top 5% in the nation for patient safety. No other hospital in northern Nevada was recognized, positioning Saint Mary’s among the best hospitals for specialty care nationwide and reflecting the organization’s commitment to delivering exceptional care year after year.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
