Reno, Nevada (July 24, 2023) – Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, has been recognized by the Lown Institute Hospitals Index as the #1 hospital in Nevada for Social Responsibility. The list ranks more than 3,600 U.S. hospitals based on more than 50 metrics across categories of equity, value of care, and patient outcomes. Metrics also include inclusivity, pay equity, community benefit, avoiding overuse, cost efficiency, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and patient safety.

“America needs socially responsible hospitals,” said Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute. “That’s why it’s so important to lift up these high-performing hospitals as examples for others to follow.”

According to the Index, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center also received “A” grades in Value of Care, Patient Outcomes, Clinical Outcomes, Patient Safety, Avoiding Overuse, and Cost Efficiency, which are key metrics that contribute to the overall rating. Overall, Saint Mary’s was #1 in Nevada for Value of Care, and Clinical Outcomes, in addition to being Top 100 in the Nation for Cost Efficiency.

The Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility utilizes more than 50 metrics to assess how well hospitals succeed at being care providers, employers, and community partners. Data sources include Medicare claims, CMS patient safety data and hospital cost reports, and IRS 990 forms, among others.

The accolades from Lown Institute come on the heels of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center being ranked as the #3 Cardiovascular Hospital in the United States, and after the hospital received Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award for a record 8th year in a row.
