Speaker: Reka Danko, MD

Reka Danko, M.D., earned her medical degree at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in Internal Medicine. Following board certification, Dr. Danko joined a hospitalist practice in northern Nevada and continues to work in acute and post-acute care settings in the community.  She serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a 352-bed acute care hospital in Reno, NV, nationally recognized and accredited by The Joint Commission offering inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services and as Senior Physician Advisor to multiple hospitals nationally.  From 2014 to 2017, Dr. Danko served as the Chief Medical Officer at Northern Nevada HOPES, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Reno, NV, where she focused on building an integrated care model and developed an outpatient addiction treatment program for substance use disorders.  Dr. Danko became board certified in Addiction Medicine in 2018 and works with community programs to increase education, prevention, and treatment options.  Dr. Danko is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and serves as the president of the medical school’s alumni association.  Dr. Danko has also remained active in public health and has been appointed as the physician to the District Board of Health at the Washoe County Health District for the 2019-2022 and 2023-2026 terms.

Speaker: Danica Pierce, LCSW, LCADC

Danica Pierce is an accomplished professional in the field of Behavioral Health. As a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor, she brings extensive expertise and a wealth of experience to her practice. With a focus on co-occurring disorders, Danica has dedicated her career to helping individuals struggling with both addiction and mental health disorders. Her dual licensure and deep understanding of these complex issues allows her to provide comprehensive and effective treatment to clients.

In addition to her clinical work, Danica serves as a respected educator. She holds teaching positions within the School of Social Work and CASAT (Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies) at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her commitment to shaping the next generation of professionals in the field is evident in her dynamic and engaging teaching style.

Beyond her direct clinical work and teaching responsibilities, Danica is also actively involved in professional leadership. She serves as a supervisor for the Board of Examiners for Social Workers, where she provides guidance and support to aspiring social workers seeking licensure. Her dedication to maintaining the highest standards of practice and her ability to inspire others have made her a sought-after mentor in her field.

Born and raised in Nevada, Danica possesses a deep understanding of the unique challenges and needs of her community. This local perspective, combined with her extensive training and experience, allows her to provide culturally sensitive and tailored care to her clients.

Danica’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues has earned her recognition and admiration within her profession. Her passion for making a difference, both through direct client work and through her contributions to education and supervision, sets her apart as a true leader in the field.
