Cancer Rehabilitation

A PORi Center of Excellence exemplifies best practice in providing specialized oncology rehabilitation services for patients who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer in any phase of cancer treatment or survivorship.

The Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORi) is a certification program for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology therapists. The mission of PORi is to elevate the practice of oncology rehabilitation and therapy, because patients who have battled (or are battling) with cancer are a unique and complex patient population. Rehabilitation for oncology patients requires a specialized skillset that therapists must learn in order to better serve the needs of these patients.

At Saint Mary’s, we now have a therapist certified through PORi in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology. These therapists specialize in head and neck cancer rehab, pelvis cancer and lower extremity rehab, breast cancer rehab, and chemotoxicity and cancer exercise management.
