Saint Mary’s Nationally Recognized for Excellence in Heart Failure Care

Reno, Nevada (August 7, 2025) – Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Heart Failure Gold Plus quality achievement award. This achievement once again highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for patients with heart failure, meaning fewer readmissions and more healthy days at home for patients in northern Nevada.

Heart failure impacts nearly 6.7 million U.S. adults and is expected to affect more than 8 million by 2030. Despite the name, heart failure doesn’t mean that the heart has stopped working, but rather the heart is having a hard time pumping blood and oxygen throughout the body. While there’s no cure for heart failure, patients can live a quality life by working with their health care team to create a plan that may include medication, symptom monitoring, and lifestyle changes.

“We are pleased to recognize the leaders and teams at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center for a strong commitment to caring for people with heart failure,” said Sabra Lewsey, M.D., MPH, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Heart Failure System of Care Advisory Group. “Hospitals that participate in Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure often see better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates, which is a win for families, communities, and health care systems.”

The Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure award is presented to hospitals that demonstrate continuous adherence to the most current, research-based practices for treating heart failure, as outlined by the American Heart Association. Participating hospitals also provide patient education to support self-management at home after discharge.

“The consistent, evidence-based care provided by our talented teams is key to long-term success for heart failure patients,” said Derrick Glum, MBA, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “This national recognition from the American Heart Association reflects the dedication, compassion, and clinical excellence of our healthcare providers and our shared goal of improving quality of life for patients in northern Nevada.”

Saint Mary’s also recently received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award, along with a recognition from U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals edition as a High Performing hospital across seven key clinical categories.

Saint Mary’s continues to enhance cardiovascular care through research-backed protocols and early follow-up care with highly qualified healthcare teams, ensuring patients have access to the highest standards of care in our community.
