Reno, Nevada (May 15, 2023) – In February 2022, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center and Urology Nevada announced a groundbreaking partnership that improved patient access to industry-leading medical technology through the introduction of Aquablation Therapy, a minimally-invasive robotic procedure. Now, just beyond one year later, doctors from Urology Nevada completed a milestone 200th Aquablation case at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Remy W. Lamberts, MD, a Reno-native and Urology Nevada provider whose training includes a 6-year residency at Stanford, is the surgeon who successfully completed the historic case earlier in 2023.
“Aquablation therapy is hands down one of the most exciting technologies and methods that I’ve come across to treat BPH since I started my training,” explained Dr. Lamberts. “Aquablation is an advanced, minimally invasive BPH treatment that uses the power of water jet delivered with robotic precision. Not only does it restore voiding function in the vast majority of patients, it allows for preservation of sexual function with a low risk of side effects compared to traditional procedures.”
As Dr. Lamberts highlights, the procedure helps treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. The technique incorporates a high-pressure water jet used to carefully remove targeted tissue, offering long-term relief even if advanced symptoms are present. Aquablation Therapy is performed under anesthesia, typically takes less than 1 hour, and has significantly less side effects as compared to other surgical alternatives. As the first hospital in Nevada to offer Aquablation Therapy, all 200 cases have been performed inside Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
“We continuously strive to deliver high-quality, safe care to our patients,” said Derrick Glum, CEO of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “In the case of Aquablation Therapy, we’ve been able to offer an advanced and viable option to hundreds of patients in a relatively short time. I am excited about our ongoing partnership with Urology Nevada, a physician group that provides incredible care and a critical service to our community.”
For those experiencing symptoms of BPH, such as frequent nighttime urination or struggling to empty the bladder, Dr. Lamberts encourages an Aquablation consult.
