New Grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety
Reno, Nevada (May 1, 2025) – Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.
“Achieving an “A” Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center earned the “A” grade, the highest safety mark that can be awarded, during the same reporting period that saw other hospitals in the region receive “B” marks for safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

We’re proud to set the standard for patient safety in our region.”
Saint Mary’s was also recently recognized as the only hospital in northern Nevada to achieve the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for 2025, and also received several other notable accolades from Healthgrades for Spine Surgery and a variety of other treatments. These acknowledgements serve as a testament to the superior quality and safety measures that are continuously upheld at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
