For more than four years, Jose A. Aguirre, MD has served as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and a member of the board of directors of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. During this period, Dr. Aguirre has been an essential member of the Saint Mary’s leadership team, while continuing to provide excellent healthcare to the greater Reno area. Effective September 1, 2016, Dr. Aguirre will step down as CMO in order to focus full-time on providing hospitalist services at various healthcare facilities throughout the region, including Saint Mary’s.
Assuming the role of Saint Mary’s CMO will be Shibu Skaria, MD. Dr. Skaria has served and provided excellent pulmonary and critical care services to our community for the past six years. Dr. Skaria has served as the Director of Respiratory Therapy and Pulmonary Function and currently serves as Saint Mary’s Medical Director and Section Chair of Critical Care. He looks forward to the responsibilities and challenges that come with this new position.

Dr. Skaria received his medical degree from Saint George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, New York. During his fellowship, he also served as Chief Fellow for the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care. Dr. Skaria is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care and is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Thoracic Society and International Society for Aerosols in Medicine.
