The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) in northern Nevada will hold its first meeting in January 2025
Reno, Nevada (January 22, 2025) – Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is proud to announce the formation of a new chapter of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) in northern Nevada. This exciting development is a significant step toward fostering collaboration and advancing healthcare across the region.
Led by Patrisha Fanter, MSN, RN, CNOR, Director of Perioperative Services at Saint Mary’s, this new AORN chapter aims to unite operating room staff from northern Nevada’s healthcare community to share best practices, improve patient care, and stay at the forefront of advancements in surgical technology and techniques. Nurses, surgical scrubs and technicians, leadership personnel, and other surgical industry partners are eligible to become members of AORN.
“Northern Nevada is home to many talented and dedicated operating room nurses, and the purpose of this AORN chapter is to bridge the gap between surgical facilities in our region,” said Fanter, who will serve as the chapter’s inaugural president. “We all have the same goal of taking care of this community the best we can and sharing information and best practices amongst each other allows us to provide the best care for patients in the region.”
This new chapter will include nurses from several acute care hospitals and specialty practices in the area. The chapter will hold its first meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, during which members will vote on by-laws, elect officers, and begin shaping topics for future discussions on surgical best practices.
AORN, founded in 1949, is the premier organization supporting perioperative nursing, advocating for patient and staff safety, and establishing standards and guidelines for surgical care. Membership in AORN provides numerous benefits, including access to scholarships, professional certifications such as CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) and CSSM (Certified Surgical Services Manager), and opportunities to attend national conferences.
“Saint Mary’s recognizes the vital role that highly skilled operating room nurses play in the continued growth and success of surgical services in our community,” said Derrick Glum, MBA, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “We are proud to lead the effort in establishing this AORN chapter for northern Nevada, providing the resources and support needed for the entire medical community to advance surgical care to benefit patients in our area.”
