Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, received an “A” grade in the Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

This marks the 6th consecutive year Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center has received the award, earning 11 consecutive “A” grades in the category of patient safety.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“Earning an ‘A’ for Patient Safety is a direct result of the dedication and hard work of our physicians, nurses, and frontline staff,” said Tiffany Coury, CEO of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “We are proud to remain the highest rated acute care hospital in Nevada.”

This award comes in addition to two prominent national recognitions that Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center has recently received. In early November, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center was ranked as the #2 most cost efficient hospital in the United States, and named one of the nation’s Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals by Fortune and IBM Watson Health.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
