The award signifies Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center is in the top 7 percent of 4,789 U.S. hospitals offering breast care services. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.

In 2016, the Center invested in new technology such as Tomosynthesis, also known as a 3-D mammogram, which allows doctors to look at breast tissue from multiple angles. The methodology used to select Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center as one of America’s Best Breast Centers is unique in that it evaluates Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences.
