Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center Recognized as Outstanding Hospital Partner During National Donate Life Month
Reno, Nevada (April 15, 2025) – In honor of National Donate Life Month this April, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center was recognized by Donor Network West for their support in life-saving organ and tissue donation. In 2024, Saint Mary’s helped facilitate 18 critical organ transplants and improved the lives of countless others through tissue and eye donations from 32 donor heroes, offering hope and healing to countless families.
“At Donor Network West, we are grateful for the unwavering support of Saint Mary’s in advancing the mission of organ and tissue donation,” said Dr. Janice Whaley, President and CEO of Donor Network West. “Each donation represents a story of hope, a family’s legacy, and a life transformed.
For its partnership, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center was awarded the 2025 Outstanding Hospital Partner of the Year. Donor Network West highlighted the continuous efforts of the hospital to improve donation processes, support donors and their families, and its outstanding partnership in the effort to improve the lives of those waiting in the community. Currently, there are more than 700 Nevadans who are on the national waitlist to receive life-saving organs.
“We are truly honored to be recognized as an Outstanding Hospital Partner. Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center understands the importance of organ donation in saving lives, and we are committed to supporting this vital cause,” said Derrick Glum, MBA, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, and the courage of donors and the families who have made the selfless decision to give others a second chance at life. We will continue to work tirelessly to improve and expand our efforts in organ donation to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.”
Partnering with Donor Network West, the federally designated non-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) serving northern parts of California and northern Nevada, Saint Mary’s plays a vital role in ensuring that the wishes of donors and their families are honored. Collectively, both organizations help provide a second chance at life through transplantation and research, turning loss into legacy.
