Saint Mary’s Recognized by U.S. News and World Report in 7 Key Clinical Categories as a High Performing Hospital

Reno, Nevada (July 29, 2025) – Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, has been named among U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals edition as a High Performing hospital across seven key clinical categories, including:

  • Heart attack
  • Heart arrythmia
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Pneumonia
  • Hip fracture
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn as part of U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. U.S. News’ annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

“For more than three decades, U.S. News has been an invaluable guide for patients,” said Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis Ben Harder at U.S. News. “Hospitals designated as ‘High Performing’ by U.S. News demonstrate a consistent ability to provide excellent care for particular medical procedures and conditions, showcasing their specialized expertise as well as dedication to exceptional patient outcomes.”

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions. U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care, evaluating patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.

“We are honored to receive this distinguished recognition across several critical areas of acute care,” said Derrick Glum, MBA, FACHE, CEO of Saint Mary’s Health Network. “This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of our exceptional care team, especially in the cardiology and cardiac intervention areas. Saint Mary’s remains committed to delivering award-winning, compassionate care and improving the health and well-being of the communities we proudly serve.”

This honor from U.S. News and World Report comes after the hospital recently received an “A” grade in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group and placement among the top 5% of U.S. hospitals for patient safety by Healthgrades. Saint Mary’s was also recognized by the Lown Institute for outstanding social responsibility, the only northern Nevada hospital to receive an “A” grade in the category on the 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index, which reflects strong performance across metrics of health equity, patient outcomes, and value of care out of more than 3,500 hospitals nationwide.
